Condensing Boilers – Happy 15th Anniversary To The Legislation

So far in 2020, we’ve had to adapt to keep up with changing government guidelines and methods of protection from the dreaded COVID-19. We believe this topic has been discussed enough that we don’t need to repeat the obvious, but we hope you are staying safe, and we’re doing everything we can to ensure any boiler servicing, boiler repair and boiler installation jobs are carried out following guidelines and protecting everyone involved. We want to celebrate the 15th anniversary of another way our industry adapted to change, with the legislation switch that stated all gas boilers installed in the UK must now be condensing boilers.

Condensing boilers are water heaters fuelled by gas or oil. They achieve high efficiency by using heat exchangers, which condense water vapour to liquid water, causing some of the latent heat to be recycled which would otherwise be wasted.

One of the many benefits of condensing boilers is that they run 20-30% more efficiently than the standard conventional boilers. Around 20 million condensing boilers have been installed since the legislation was put into place back in 2005, with more being installed every day. This change has resulted in an estimated reduction of carbon dioxide emissions by around 1.3 tonnes a year, making it one of the country’s biggest steps in reducing CO2 emissions!

After 15 years of this legislation being in effect, we might soon have to adapt further as the government looks for more ways to reduce carbon emissions in coming years. The government have set out a 20-20-20 package for 2021 that will see greenhouse gas emissions cut by 20%, the increase of renewables used by 20% and a 20% improvement in energy efficiency. To hit this goal, the public is being encouraged to replace their older boilers due to their lack of efficiency and general effect on the environment.

We advise not waiting for your boiler to reach its breaking point before upgrading, take the leap today and be part of the 20-20-20 movement, resulting in a lower carbon footprint and less impact on your energy bills!
