Overcome plumbing problems – 4 more tips

Overcome plumbing problems – As mentioned in our last blog, plumbing is an important aspect of your home that you wouldn’t think about until something goes wrong. There are plumbing faults though that could be fixed at home. Today we’re going to help solve some more possible common plumbing problems such as faulty pipes, water pressure, dripping faucets and having no hot water.

How to overcome a faulty pipe

Faulty pipes can easily go unnoticed until the damage is taking money from your pocket. Not only can pipes leak, but they can freeze and sweat too. If your pipes are leaking, this could be the cause of an ill-fitted valve as mentioned previously, or that over time the pipe has corroded resulting in this now dripping water. Check the valve first, but if this isn’t the issue and there is a hole or corrosion in your pipes, it may be best to call a plumber to have this fixed or replaced professionally. If your pipes are known to freeze or sweat, this can easily be fixed by installing pipe insulation. Having your pipes covered can keep them warmer longer, saving you both money on energy bills and any future issues with pipe freezing or corrosion caused by pipe sweating.

How to overcome low water pressure

Then some struggle with low water pressure. This can be annoying, not only when having a shower but for rinsing things down, waiting for the bath or sink to fill, or even just generally rinsing things down. This could be the cause of a blockage in your pipes or a build-up of limescale. These can be fixed at home as mentioned previously, however, if you find nothing is helping, it may be time to call a plumber to get your water pressure put up. Make sure to check all your taps and showers to confirm you’re happy with the pressure it is set at as if this ends up being too high it could cause issues with your pipes in the future.

How to overcome a dripping faucet

overcome plumbing problems – A dripping faucet isn’t necessarily a plumbing emergency but is more of an annoyance and money waste. Fixing this drip could save you up to 10% on your water bill which is a massive saving for something that seems not so important in the short term. Your faucet could be leaking due to corrosion, high water pressure or simply that the washer is damaged, resulting in small amounts of water being able to leak through. We would recommend getting a plumber in to find out and replace the washer as it’s easier to do with professional tools, but you can do it at home to save yourself some pennies.

How to overcome no hot water

Not being able to shower or clean the dishes is a major nuisance, especially for family households. The issue of having no hot water seems to pop up randomly without any warning and the best fix is to call in a plumber or engineer to check everything’s working and get it all up and running as quickly as possible. If you know how though, check the pressure valve on your boiler or water tank to make sure it’s not been turned down accidentally (instructions should be in your boiler manual). It’s also recommended to have an annual boiler service for an engineer to make sure everything is running smoothly. When getting a new boiler, it’s also important to make sure you have the right-sized tank for your home as this could be a cause of hot water not reaching certain rooms in your home.
