What is an eco-friendly boiler?

You may have heard the term ‘eco-friendly boiler’ but you may not know what it actually is! Put simply, it is a boiler that is engineered to protect both you and the environment.

Traditional boilers are increasingly falling out of fashion, not least because they can be vulnerable to dangerous leakages of carbon monoxide. There’s also an increase in air pollution from the waste gas they emit if certain types of fuels are used to generate the heat. Fossil fuels, for example, are massively responsible for air pollution.

An introduction to an eco-friendly boiler

The high tech technology used in the manufacture of eco boilers helps to reduce heat loss and improve heat transfer.

Eco boilers still provide central heating and warm water in the way we need, but at the same time, they protect the environment through little to no emissions. Most eco-friendly boilers capitalise on high efficiency, ensuring you get enough heat with minimal heat loss, whilst saving on costs and protecting the environment at the same time. It’s a win-win!

Eco boilers run on renewable energy

Eco-friendly boilers also run on renewable energy and not fossil fuels (non-renewable energy). Renewable energy sources are those that can be replenished fairly quickly or do not run out at all. A good example of a renewable energy source is trees. Non-renewable energy sources take a long time to form and once utilized, it is very difficult if not impossible to renew these sources. Non-renewable energy sources are mostly fossil fuels such as coal and gas.

Eco-friendly boilers use sources that are carbon neutral. This means that the carbon from the source of energy is the same as the carbon being emitted from the boiler. For example, boilers that are fuelled by wood pellets are carbon-neutral, because the carbon absorbed during the woods’ formation is equal to the amount that is released by the boiler.

Smart thermostats

Smart thermostats are another method of heating control, which makes central heating systems more eco-friendly. This innovative technology means that homeowners can control their heating, through the internet. In some cases, smart thermostats can be controlled in real-time, while others can be programmed in such a way that, means your boiler can be scheduled to turn on and off at certain times. Highly advanced smart thermostats can work with GPS technology and motion detectors, allowing them to heat up rooms individually. No matter the level of technology involved, the purpose of a smart thermostat is to ensure your boiler operates more efficiently.
